RE: Board of Ethics Petition No. 2005-08
Thank you all again for responding to our inquiry concerning
representation by the Corporation Counsel in the above action filed by Roger
Christie.
Deputy Corporation Counsel Michael J. Udovic has been assigned to
represent each of you, and will be filing an answer on your behalf within the time
provided for by rule. As with all major litigation handled by our office, we employ
a team approach to defending our clients and County. Thus, we will utilize as
many legal resources as are necessary to properly protect you and the interest of
our County.
John D. Kim, Esq., a deputy corporation counsel from the County of Maui,
has graciously agreed to serve as special counsel for the Ethics Board in this
matter. This service will be performed at no additional cost to our taxpayers,
other than the cost of Mr. Kim's airline ticket, ground transportation expenses,
lodging expenses (if any), and per diem expenses, which will be paid through our
office budget. Mr. Kim's service will avoid any conflict of interest in this matter,
and dispel any appearance of impropriety. I _
