I just don't know what's happening why so many Council members want to shoot themselves in the foot
again. 1 hope they can understand that 1 REALLY do care about what they do. Above all, I want them to
be successful,, but they just aren't going to have any feet left. 1 trust that you have not been instrumental in the
move to gut the sunshine law. You've always acted as if you understand that business needs to be done up
Cront. I know it's not easy being an elected officials these days -trying to get something done. But elected oftcials
have to realize that the public wants government to be out in the open where they can see and react to what's going
on. While I'd like to be able to help work for the things that seem important to many of us in Hawaii, I can't do that
when a great deal happens out of sight 1 think 1 feel worse about government today than I've felt for years, and the
Sunshine threat has put a finishing touch to my day. Please tell your colleagues that they're blowing their own fragile
credibility. Studies show that people usually feel better about local government than they do about state or federal
government, but these sorts of moves will destroy that level of trust. Just because the State Legislature has unwisely
exempted itself from the Sunshine Law doesn't mean that County Councils should do so too.
