Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 197-05, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 197-05, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 166 by Director of Finance
William Takaba, via Communication No. 506, dated October 26, 2005, authorizes the Office of
the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the United States of America for the Assistance to
Firefighters Grant.
The Department of Homeland Security and the Office for Domestic Preparedness, through its
FY 2005 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, has authorized a $406,01.6 grant to the
Hawai`i County Fire Department for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant. These funds will be
used to purchase and install venting systems for all of the Department's fire stations (excluding
volunteer fire stations). These vehicle exhaust removal systems should reduce or eliminate the
Fire personnel's exposure to exhaust fumes generated by fire apparatuses and ambulances.
Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawai`i Revised Statutes, County departments must obtain the consent
of the Council to enter into agreements with the Federal or State Governments respecting action
to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend and receive any
funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those
powers.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 1 97-05
and recommends its adoption.
