Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 166, reports as follows:
Bill No. 166, transmitted jointly with Resolution No. 197-05 by Director of Finance
William Takaba, via Communication No. 506, dated October 26, 2005, amends Ordinance
No. 05-86, as amended, the Operating Budget, ending June 30, 2006. The amendment is as
follows:

The Department of Homeland Security and the Office for Domestic Preparedness, through its
FY 2005 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, has authorized an Assistance to Firefighters
Grant to the Hawai`i County Fire Department. These funds will be used to purchase and install
venting systems for all of the Department's fire stations (excluding volunteer fire stations).
These vehicle exhaust removal systems should reduce or eliminate the Fire personnel's exposure
to exhaust fumes generated by fire apparatuses and ambulances.
Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, and Section 13-13(b), Hawaii County
Charter, the Mayor is hereby authorized to apply for, receive and expend the funds for an
Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 166 and
recommends it pass first reading.
