TESTIMONY
Supportine Resolution 190-05: Supports the Coqui Froe Workine Group's
Consolidated Efforts to Control and Eradicate Coqui FroHS in Hawaii Counh~
Chairman Higa, Members o1'thc Hawaii County Council:
1 have been growing coficc and macadamia nuts in South Kona for the past 25 years. I
am in strong support of Resolution 190-05: Supports the Coqui Frog Working Group's
Consolidated Efforts to Control and Eradicate Coqui Frogs in Hawaii County.
This resolution is very important to the County of Hawaii, because many agricultural
lands on the Big Island have, over the past few years, become infested with coqui frogs.
These frogs, not being native, may eventually upset the natural ecosystems in the forests
and other areas of the Big ]stand. At this time, the coqui frogs appear to be only a noise
nuisance, however, it cannot he foretold what effects an ever-increasing population will
have on the environment. ll is imperative that a concerted effort be made to control and
eradicate the coqui frog population, otherwise untold negative impacts may occur to the
natural ecosystems on the Big Island. Waiting until an epidemic situation is reached will
only result in increased costs to the eradication program.
1, therefore, urge adoptinn of Resolution 190-05. Thank you for the opportunity to
