Subject: Oppose removal of Bob Jacobs and Peter Hoffmann from chair positions
I have been informed by Bob Jacobs of the your intent, along with other Council member from Hilo, to remove
Bob Jacobs as chair of the Environmental Management Committee and to remove Council member Pete
Hoffmann as co-chair of the Planning Committee.
As a resident and property owner in "upper Puna," I have worked closely with Bob Jacobs and his wife on various
social and environmental issues for 8 years. I have FIFTY years of extensive experience with environmental
issues, including exposure to tobacco smoke, across the nation.) have worked to retain the rights of Native
Americans on the Colville Indian Reservation where I was raised and have advocated for civil right related to race
and ethnicity, disability, gender, and health.
I lived in Chicago for 22 years and am very familiar with the abililty of politicians to misuse their position and their
power in ways that do NOT serve the citizens who elected them. You may be aware that those politicians are
finally being exposed.
I will attend the Council meeting on Wednesday, November 23, at 9:00 at 25 Aupuni to participate in the
discussion related to your rationale for wanting to remove a trusted public servant from the Environmental
Management Committee. You may be aware that Bush's support for ravaging protected land in Alaska, where
many of my family members live, has recently failed. Please understand that citizens are no longer willing to stand
by and let politicians make decisions that benefit the few at the expense of the many.
