Subject: council committee chairs-and your wht interview
Aloha Councilman Higa,
I would urge you to maintain Councilman Jacobson in his present committee chairmanships,
until such time as he requests change. Mr Jacobson is the member on council having
my greatest confidence and respect, and it is my belief that this opinion is shared by the
great majority of citizens islandwide.
On a second issue, I was surprised by your interview with WHT in which you indicated
knowledge that concurrency was the prime election stand of the D7,8,9 candidates and
most important issue of the electorate, yet you voted according to those candidates/councilmembers
recommendation on the Pu'aa/Norton project- relying on their analyses of the project merit.
Please tell me if my logic is wrong on this: If the job of elected government is to represent
the electorate (the government gets its just power from the consent of the governed )-and you recognized
that the electorate overwhelmingly wished to hold off on re-zones along the Queen K corridor until
added and adequate infrastructure was in place, then is not the merit of any project irrelevant?
The merit becomes relevant after the infrastructure is in place. Thus your stand and vote
would logically seem to support the D7,8,9 position that county government exists for implementing
the personal agendas of the councilmembers, rather than representing the wishes of the governed.
I had expected greater leadership from you, and am very disappointed. Again, if my logic is flawed,
please advise.
This brings me once more to Councilman Jacobson. He is the one representative on council
who has a consistent record of representing the wishes of the electorate. I think that this is
widely known and appreciated by the electorate. I hope that council are not trying to punish him
for having taken this position.
