Councilman Pete Hoffmann sees where there is a need in the community and works to solve it. For the
Waimea community, he recently worked closely with us to try and establish a much needed community sober
living residence. This is a big step to support recovering addicts in their need for clean and sober living and a big
step to help these individuals rejoin the community as a contributing member. Pete sees this need and has been
extremely instrumental in making this happen.
As the co-chair of the planning committee, Pete is addressing the severe need for affordable housing. I recently
read an article in West Hawaii Today where Pete was quoted regarding increasing our affordable housing
requirements for Industrial Developments. It appears to me that Councilman Hoffman is working hard on our
islands affordable housing problem
I have been told that Resolution 207-05 is simply a political move by the Hilo councilmen and chair to remove
Councilman Hoffmann from the planning committee. I urge you to not do this. This would limit the West and
North Hawaii representation on this very important committee. Removing him at this time, when he is just
beginning to find new ways to increase affordable housing on the island is a very BIG mistake!!
I urge you to not remove Councilman Hoffmann as the co-chair of the planning committee. Please keep our
effective area representative where he can continue to do good for our island.
