Subject Resolution supporting efforts to protect Native Hawaiian ancestral remains
(iwi kupuna), funerary objects (moepu), sacred objects, and cultural
patrimony from desecration and destruction.
unclosed is a resolution to support the good faith ef(brts of the Native Hawaiian
community to protect their sawed remains and objects on behalf of future generations.
The County Council recognizes its responsibility to foster greater awareness of and
respect for Native I Iawaiian cultural values and traditional belief systems among the
citizens of Haw~ai' i County.

R{i: (Resolution No. 244-06 Resolution supporting efforts to protect Native Hawaiian
ancestral remains (iwi kupuna), funerary objects (moepu), sacred objects, and cultural
patrimony from desecration and destruction.
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rulc A of the Rules ofProcedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter he
waived from the Committee on Human Services and Economic Development to the full Council
for immediate action. In reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial his therefore
advantageous that approval is granted and the matter placed onto the next Council agenda for
review. I Iowevcr. in the event this reyucst is denied, for whatever reason, [understand the
matter shall be referred to the Committee on Human Services and Economic Uevelopment ~iir
