Comm. 610: PRESENTATION BY JIM HODGE, CEO OF HAWAIIAN WASTE SYSTEMS, LLC ON WASTE PROCESSING AND EXPORT TO THE ROOSEVELT REGIONAL LANDFILL IN EASTERN WASHINGTON S'CATE From Environmental Management Committee (EMC) Chair Gary Safarik, dated December 21, 2005, informing Councilmembers that he will be holding the above presentation at the January 19, 2006 EMC meeting. Mr. Hodge will address Hawaii County's solid waste disposal situation by proposing to process, bale and wrap East Hawai`i's solid waste at their privately-financed facility and transport the waste bales under a 5-year contract for a minimum of 50,000 tons per year. ON AN INTERIM PLAN TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF THE EXISTING HILO LANDFILL From Environmental Management Committee (EMC) Chair, Gary Safarik, dated December 21, 2005, informing Councilmembers that he will be holding the above presentation at the January 19, 2006 EMC meeting. Pacific Waste, Inc. is forming a joint venture with FERCO Enterprises, Inc. and Allied Energy Services, LLC for the purpose of creating a municipal solid waste reduction and conversion to energy facility in Hilo. Mr. Kaniho will propose a short term plan to extend the life of the existing Hilo Landfill pending the immediate construction of a modern municipal waste to electrical energy facility. A lobbyist means "any individual engaged for pay or other consideration who spends more than five hours in any month or $275 in any six-month period for the purpose of attempting to influence legislative or administrative action by communicating or urging others to communicate with public offtcials", subject to specific conditions and exceptions. {Article 15, Section 2-91.3(a)(6), Hawaii County Code}.
