Subject: Bill No 4, Draft 6 -Animal Control Ordinance
As Vice-President of Advocats I would like you to make the following changes to impending legislation regarding
animal control on the island:
Section 4-22, article 4 mandates a 48 hour holding period for impounded stray dogs, but mentions nothing
about cats. Currently the holding period for cats is 24 hours. It usuaNy takes at least 24 hours for an owner or an
owner/feeder to notice if a cat is missing. Please change this section to mandate a 48 hour holding period for
cats as well as dogs.
HIHS is proposing to raise the $10 redemption fee to $25 per animal. This is an unnecessary hardship for
Advocat ownerlfeeders as we already pay $50-60 per cat to have them trapped, neutered and returned to their
colonies. We feel we are acting in the best interest of the humane society and the island in general by keeping
the feral cat population under control and would like you to exempt Advocats (ear tipped, spayed or neutered
cats) from this onerous burden altogether or at least maintain the $10 fee.
Thank you for your consideration.
