Dear Chairman Higa and Council Members:
it is my pleasure to inform you that I have nominated the following individuals to the County of
Hawaii Cost of Government Commission:
Council ~aastrict 1 -Myles Y. Miyasato is a 44-year resident of Hawaii. Mr. Miyasato is
currently employed by the Hawaii Operating Engineers' Industry as a Stabilization
representative. He is a m~rnber of the Koaniani Community Club and the Laupahoehoe
Community Board. Mr. Miyasato states that he is not affiliated with any political party.
Council District 2 m Melvyn K. Sakaguchi is a 64-year resident of Hawaii. Mr. Sakaguchi was
an administrator with the University of Hawaii Community Colle€Jes before retiring in 1996. He
is presently doing pro-bono consultant +~vork for a university in Viet Nam. Mr. Sakaguchi states
that he is not affiliated with any political party.
Council Cistrict 3 -Barbara r. Stremski is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. Ms. Stremski retired
in 2004 from the l~iio Medical Center, where she worked as an insurance clerk in the Admitting
Department, She is currently the Secretary of AARP Chapter 655-i-lilo, and a past member of
HGI=A Unit 3 (Steward and i-lawai'i f0ivision Vice Chair), ILWU Unit 1501 (Chairperson) and
SHPDA (Hawai'i Director). Ms. Stremski states that she is a Democrat.
Council Cistrict 4 _ Edgar i3. Ombac is a 12-year resident of Hawaii. Mr. Ombac is the local
area manager of LAVA 105, KOA Country and KIPA 620 Aril radio stations, and he does regular
television shows on Channel 26 (Living in paradise). He is a former member and President of
the Big island Association of Nurserymen, a former coach :~t Keaau High School, and a former
member and Vice President of Waiakeawaena School. Mr. Ombac states that he is not
affiliated with any political party.
Council District 5 -Wayne T. Joseph is a 57-year resident of Hawaii. Mr. Joseph is employed
by the State of Hawaii, Department of education as a high school teacher. He is the President
of the frig Island runners Club, the President and race Director of the 03ig Island Marathon, the
Waiakea High School Cross Country and `track Coach, an~i the advisor for the Waiakea High
School Chess Club. Mr. Joseph states that he is not affiliated with any political party.

Council District 6 -Marilyn L. Nicholson is a 30-year resident of Hawaii. Ms. Nicholson is the
Executive Director of the Volcano Art Center, the President of the Cooper Center Council and
sits on the Steering Committee of the Volcano Heritage Corridor. She formerly was the
treasurer of the Hawaii Museums Association and a board member of the Hawaii Island Aloha
Festivals. Ms. Nicholson states that she is a Democrat.
Council District 7 -Darlene J. Ferrantino is a seven year resident of Hawaii. Ms. Ferrantino
was self-employed from 1994 to 2005, working as a licensed CPA. She is the Treasurer of the
West Hawaii Humane Society, a board member of the Visitor Aloha Society Hawaii, and a
member of the Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Ferrantino states that she is not affiliated with any
political party.
Council District 8 -William L. Wong is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. Since 1976, Mr. Wong
has been self-employed as a CPA with William L. Wong, CPA and Associates, Inc. He is
currently the Chairman of the Salvation Army. Mr. Wong states that he is not affiliated with any
political party.
Council District 9 -Pamela F. Cushnie is a 50-year resident of Hawaii. Ms. Cushnie is a
teacher at Waimea Elementary School, and also a math consultant for McGraw-Hilo Publishers.
She is a past president of the Outdoor Circle, and a former member of both the Hawaii County
Charter Commission and the Hawaii County Council. Ms. Cushnie states that she is a
Republican.
