As Chairrnan of Friends of Kahuku Park I would like to sincerely thank you Bob. You aze helping us achieve
the potential Kahuku Park has to the people of Ocean View. The rock retaining walls, and stairs, as well as the
community walking path will help assure an environment of health, safety, and recreation in our remote
neighborhood of 6,000 people.
Friends of Kahuku Pazk is involved in long term planning for the Park as it relates to planning for all of Ocean
View. 4 County acres aze developed, witty 6 acres left to be improved It is our hope to work in cooperation
with the Dept. of Parks and Recreation and the E.P.A.'s Safe Drinking Water Trust to complete the Kahuku
Park Master Plan. With your personal and financial support, we will be able to proceed with much needed
improvements to help aid the safety and welfaze of those many people in Ocean View who use the Park. Our
priorities have been thoroughly discussed and agreed upon by the Board of Directors of Ocean View
Community Development Corp. (OVCDC) a SOlc-3 and highly supported by the community. We appreciate
whatever funds you can allocate to help us achieve an environment at Kahuku Pazk that helps assure an enjoy-
able and safe location for young and old to use and recreate.
The following projects are our immediate objectives at the Park:
L COMMUNITY WALKING PATH: The "Life Walk", is planned to be 1,400 ft. long and 4 ft. wide. Exercise
stations will be located along the path as well as 4 benches. We had originally discussed an asphalt covering,
but would prefer to use chip-seal, the same swface we use on all of the roads in Ocean View.

court, 50 ft. to the sand volley ball entrance. This is also the beginning of the community walking path.

Life Walk continues along the outside of the baseball field, up a 2% slope
back to the pavilion, 1,400 ft.
RETAINING WALLS: Two 5 ft. by 110 ft. stone retaining walls between the basketball court and the soccer
fled. This will finish the east end of the soccer field. The walls will prc;vent rocks from rolling onto the future
grass field, and provide sure footing for spectators and pedestrians.
SWING SEATING-RETAINING WALL: 2 1/2 ft. by74 ft. stone retaining wall on two sides of the children's
swings. This will prevent rocks from rolling into the sand and provide seating for supervising parents and the
general public.

BUS STOP STAIRS LEADING DOWN TO SWINGS: A cement stairway and rail leading from the school
bus stop and upper parking lot to the swing set and pavilion. Currently, children traverse down a dangerous
embankment.

dren's playground for parents to supervise small children. 1 located near large swing set.

While the last 3 1/2 years of improvements at Kahuku Park have marked a new age of Pazk use and volunteer
support, it has brought with it the need for safe pedestrian passage from one venue to the next. Safe transporta-
tion from the parking lot and bus stop to the pavilion, playgrounds, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and soccer
ball fields is of utmost importance. We look forwazd to working with you in both short and long range goals
here at Kahuku Park.
