RESOLUTION NO. 269 06
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNCIL CHAIR AND THE MAYOR TO
NEGOTIATE THE PURCHASE OF APPROXIMATELY 17,000 SQUARE FEET OF
FEE SIMPLE OFFICE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 333 KILAUEA AVENUE, HILO,
HAWAII FROM BF HILO PARTNERS TO DOMICILE THE OFFICE OF THE
COUNTY COUNCIL -CLERK.
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council finds that the renovation schedule and
escalating cost of the renovation of the County Building appears to be uncertain; and
WHEREAS, the Council is an equal but separate branch of county government that must
assure the services it offers will be reliable, properly coordinated, and well-planned; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council further finds that the space allotted in the
County Building is not sufficient to domicile the Office of the County Council -Clerk; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council needs a minimum of approximately 17,000
square feet in individual council offices, staff office space, storage and archiving areas, and
council meeting rooms; and
WHEREAS, the vacated space of the Office of the County Council -Clerk could be used
by the administration to expand much-needed office space of its departments; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council wishes to negotiate for a sufficient office
space with BF Hilo Partners for not more than $5,000,000 to purchase office space at 333
Kilauea Avenue, Hilo, Hawaii for the Office of the County Council -Clerk.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII:
That the Council Chair and Mayor are authorized to negotiate the purchase of at
least 17,000 square feet of fee simple property located at 333 Kilauea Avenue,
Hilo, Hawaii.
2. That the amount not to exceed five million dollars ($5,000,000) be negotiated
with BF Hilo Partners for the specific purpose of meeting the County's obligation
to purchase the fee simple property.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the
Department of Finance, Mayor and the Chair of Hawaii County Council.
