Dear Chairman Higa and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the County of Hawaii Salary
Commission:
Council District 4 - Mr. Dwayne T. Mukai is a 50-year resident of Hawaii. He is currently a
financial advisor at Morgan Stanley. From 1993 to 1998, he was the business manager at the
County of Hawaii Office of the Prosecuting Attorney. He is presently the president of both the
Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Hawaii and the Sons & Daughters of
AJA Veterans. He is also the director of the Waiakea Elementary PTO, the Big Island Junior Golf
Association, the Hilo High School Alumni Association and the Crescent City Lions Club.
Mr. Mukai states that he is a Democrat. If confirmed, he will serve out an unexpired term that
expires on December 31, 2006.
Council District 3 - Mr. Searle W. Grace is a 53-year resident of Hawaii. He is currently
employed by Lentz Real Estate. From 1977 to 2002, he was a fire fighter with the Honolulu Fire
Department. Mr. Grace was an assistant Boy Scout Leader, and he coaches AYSO and Little
League Baseball. He also volunteers as a medic at Kona Pop Warner football games. Mr. Grace
states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term to expire
on December 31, 2010.
