Subject: the dog noise issue
County Council Members
My letter is written in strong support of legislation to curb the ability of people to allow dogs to bark in annoying patterns.
I'm not surprised that there is opposition to such legislation; a small minority of people are comfortable in what has been
an essentially lawless situation. Awell-trained, loved dog does not bark in a disturbing pattern. Laws curbing the barking
will help the "silent" majority of people who are disturbed by the barking, will help the dogs by focusing attention on the
barking dogs that need changes in their care, and will even help the people who oppose the bill because they may be
moved to learn more about dogs as well as about the noise issues of their neighbors.
Dog noises are a frequent source of stress and impetus to move on our island. For those sensitive to the noise (and again,
that is the majority), much of the stress has to do with the fact that the dog in question is in some kind of distress that is not
receiving attention.
This letter was written by me, and does not come from any organization or group. It is the first time I have been moved to
write to the council. Thank you for your attention.
