Subject: KPC Villages on Planning Committee Agenda
It has recently come to our attention that KPC Villages, LLC will present a revised proposal to the Planning
Committee at their meeting on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 relative to the rezoning of land on Ali'i Drive across
from Huggo's from Multiple Family Residential to Resort Hotel.
Isn't it time that the County of Hawaii Planning Committee start planning' instead of continuing to allow more
resort projects to proceed without consideration being given to upgrading our current infrastructure? Kailua-Kona
does not need another resort unit on Ali'i Drive. What Kailua-Kona does need, however, is to have connecting
roadways from Ali'i Drive to Queen Kaahumanu Highway, so that it doesn't take the driving public twenty minutes
or more to get through town. Lord help us when, not if, there is a tsunami.
We also need to have additional parking. If, for some reason, one needs or wants to shop in Kailua Village first
they have to negotiate through the traffic on Kuakini Highway, and then attempt to locate a place to park
which are nearly impossible unless you want to pay Joey Diamond's exhorbitant parking rates, or park in the lot
at the King Kam Hotel and walk forever to get to your destination.
It is my hope that the County of Hawaii Planning Department start planning and deny KPC Village LLC's proposal
for any further development on Ali'i Drive until our most critical infrastructure has been improved.
