Thank you for allowing me to testify.
My name is John Broussard. I'm a resident of North Kohala.
I have some questions to ask first.
Why is the council even considering removing chairmen as heads of their
committees when they have clearly demonstrated that they are competent,
effective and are taking seriously the problems the County is facing and
which both of these committees have to deal with?
Pete Hoffman has clearly demonstrated that he cares about what is
happening to Hawaii County, and that he wants the Council's Planning
Committee to be involved in sensible, forward looking planning. Is that why
there's now an attempt to remove him as co-chair of that committee?
Bob Jacobsen is concerned with the environment. Is that why there's a move
afoot to remove him as head of the Environmental Management Committee?
So much for the questions.
If Bob and Pete remain in their present Council positions, that will help to
insure that Hawaii County is moving forward and not backward to the
environmental neglect and haphazard planning of the past which has
produced the headache of I-Iokulia and the current crisis in waste
management.
If Bob and Pete are removed there will be the additional problem of
exacerbating the growing rift between East and West IJawai'i.
In short I urge the Council to retain the current Council committee structure.
It works. Don't mess with it. - - -
