SUBJECT: Veterans Advisory Committee Membership
Chapter 15, Article 7, Section 15-62(b)
Enclosed please find an amendment to the above-referenced section of the Hawaii County
Code to correct the following:
1) When the Military Order of the Purple Heart was added to the County Code, they had
one chapter (Hilo Chapter #731), it has since changed to an islandwide organization.
We would like to include the entire island when filling vacancies to that slot.
2) A representative of a Korean War Veterans organization has been filling one of four
independent slots. To ensure that this organization is not overlooked while filling future
vacancies, we would like to designate a slot to Korean War Veterans in 15-62 and
reduce the number of "independent" slots to three.
There are currently 16 slots available for the Veterans Advisory Committee (12 to be filled by
Veterans organizations and 4 at-large). Item 2 above will reduce the number of at-large slots to
3 and 13 slots to be filled by specific organizations.
