RESOLUTION NO.
RESOLUTION CREATING A PARK CARETAKER II POSITION, A PARK
CARETAKER I POSITION, AND A PARK CARETAKER I (1/2T) POSITION FOR THE
DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation has acquired two new parks to
maintain, the Pu'umaile/Lehia Park and the Honl's/Waiaha Beach Park; and
WHEREAS, the Pu'umaile/Lehia Park in South Hilo consists of 54 acres and includes toilet
locations, graveled roads, ocean frontage, informal parking areas and lawn areas and the
Honl's/Waiaha Beach Park in Kona is an one acre site that includes a restroom, ocean frontage,
and parking areas; and
WHEREAS, the creation of a working supervisor position (Park Caretaker II) and a Park
Caretaker I position for the Parks Maintenance Division will allow them to properly service and
maintain the Pu'umaile/Lehia Park and to assist at the other parks in Hilo, including Onekahakaha,
Kealoha, Carlsmith, Lokoaka, Leleiwi, and Richardson Ocean Park; and
WHEREAS, the Honl's/Waiaha Beach Park can be serviced and maintained by a Park
Caretaker I (1/2T); and
WHEREAS, there should be sufficient funds in the Parks and Recreation, Parks
Maintenance`s Regular Salaries and Wages account (010-500-5505.01-011); and
WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that the Mayor
has the power to "Create positions...fortyhich appropriations have been made by the council...".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that a Park Caretaker II, WS-02, position, a Park Caretaker I, BC-02, position and a Park
Caretaker I (1/2T), BC-02, position be created in the Department of Parks and Recreation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there should be sufficient funds in the Department of
Parks and Recreation, Parks Maintenance's Regular Salaries and Wages account (010-500-
5505.01-011).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the
Departments of Finance, Civil Service, and Parks and Recreation.
