RESOLUTION NO. 260
(Draft 2)
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, in 2001 a group of concerned parents of students attending Kealakehe High
School felt there was great need to create a method of keeping their teenagers safe on graduation
night and volunteered their time and resources towards this common goal; and
WHEREAS, Kealakehe Project Grad, anon-profit organization, has grown to include
Kealakehe High School students, staff, families, underclassmen, alumni, community and local
businesses; and
WHEREAS, Kealakehe Project Grad is committed to positive nurturing of our youth
while promoting responsible and healthy lifestyle choices; and
WHEREAS, realizing high school graduation is a very special occasion for high school
seniors, Kealakehe Project Grad continues to pursue its goal of insuring that graduates are given
the opportunity to celebrate the occasion in a positive and healthy environment, keeping
themselves and the community safe; and
WHEREAS, emphasizing safety and well-being of our youth on graduation night,
Kealakehe Project Grad organizes an all-night alcohol and drug free chaperoned celebration with
dinner, dancing, sports activities and games, immediately following commencement exercises;
and
WHEREAS, noting with satisfaction, since the inception of Project Grad in 2001 there
have been no reported incidents of motor vehicle accidents or injuries involving students
attending Kealakehe High School due to alcohol or drugs on graduation night; and
WHEREAS, graduating seniors on the Big Island deserve a safe alternative to the
dangerous "grad night" tradition ofparty-hopping that often times involve drinking and driving.
NOW, THERF,FORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that the following amount is hereby transferred and appropriated as set forth
below:

OUT AND FROM:
010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC -Contingency Relief $5,000.00
CREDITED TO:
010.251.5251.39 Department of Liquor Control $5,000.00

BE IT FINALLY 12ESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii shall
forward a copy of this Resolution to the Director of Finance and that the Director of Finance is
hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
Resolution.
