RESOLUTION NO. 3915 tJ~i
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND
FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, a $10,000.00 appropriation will be used by the North Kohala Community
Resource Center for the public education efforts of the Hawaii Wildlife Center, to be administered
by the Department of Research and Development; and
WHEREAS, the number of endangered bird species in Hawaii represents 40% of all
endangered birds in the combined 50 states; and
WHEREAS, of Hawai`i's 70 surviving species of birds, 29 species are endangered, and 14
species are threatened with extinction; and
WHEREAS, availability of a qualified facility to care for Hawai`i's sick, injured, and
orphaned endemic and indigenous wildlife is an important resource tool to help reverse the County's
declining populations of birds and other native wildlife; and
WHEREAS, there is no facility in the State or the County of Hawaii that can provide
suitable care for Hawai`i's sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Wildlife Center will serve as a wildlife hospital for long and short-
term care of native birds and other species; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Wildlife Center will also be involved in comprehensive Hawaiian
wildlife conservation projects, including a variety of education, research and community programs;
and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Wildlife Center will actively educate the public, wildlife agencies,
and other wildlife groups about the Center and how to identify, capture, and transport sick or injured
native birds; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Wildlife Center will benefit the County's wildlife populations
by providing resources for public education about native species and the needs of these
threatened and endangered populations; and
WHEREAS, the current appropriation will fund the Hawaii Wildlife Center's public
education efforts, through its fiscal agent, the North Kohala Community Resource Center; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Wildlife Center will also be supported with funds from local
and statewide businesses and wildlife agencies, as well as grants from both Hawaii and national
grant makers.
NOW, THEREFORE, DE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL Oh THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that the following amount be and is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth
below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Finance and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to
make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
