Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Resolution No. 255-06, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 255-06, transmitted by Hawaii County Council Vice Chair Virginia Isbell, via
Communication No. 667, dated January 31, 2006, requesting the Mayor and his administration to
expedite the construction of La`aloa Street extension, and, as a separate project, while this is being
planned and designed, provide traffic calming devices on La`aloa Street via a separate but
concurrent project called the La`aloa Street Traffic Calming Project.
The resolution cites the traffic congestion on Ali`I Drive, caused by the on-going construction in
the area as a primazy cause for the necessary traffic calming devices and expedited construction of
the La`aloa Street extension.
This matter was postponed at the February 14, 2006 meeting, in order to allow the developer the
opportunity to appear before the Committee.
During its discussion at today's meeting. Committee member and Council Vice-Chair Virginia
Isbell moved to amend her resolution, and provided Drafr 2 of the resolution for the Committee to
review.
Your Committee heazd testimony from a member of the public regarding the proposed requests.
Mr. George "Denny" Kaufman spoke in support of the resolution.
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Resolution No. 255-06, as amended by Draft 2, and recommends its adoption, as
amended.
