Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 698, transmitted by
Mayor Harry Kim, dated February 9, 2006, nominates Ms. Kendall D. Sharpless of Council
District 6 to the County of Hawaii Board of Ethics.
A six-year resident of Hawaii, Ms. Kendall D. Sharpless is a retired registered nurse. From
1976 to 2003, Ms. Sharpless was employed by Maui Memorial and Kula Hospitals. Prior to that,
she worked at the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu.
Ms. Sharpless is currently a clerical volunteer with the Big Island Tobacco-Free Partnership, the
Friends of Hawaii Volcano National Park and the Hawaii County Resource Center. Of no
political party affiliation, Ms. Sharpless will serve a term to end December 31, 2009.
Pursuant to Article XIV, Section 14-5, Hawai `i County Charter, there shall be a board of ethics
appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
Although a formal motion to amend was not made, Your Committee would like to note a
correction to Communication 69, which should have stated that Ms. Sharpless has been a
resident of Hawaii for 44 years.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Ms. Kendall D. Sharpless to the
Hawaii County Board of Ethics.
