Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 699, reports as follows:
Communication No. 699, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated February 10, 2006, nominates
Mr. Dwayne T. Mukai of Council District 4 and Mc Searle W. Grace of Council District 3 to
serve on the Hawaii County Salary Commission.
A resident of Hawaii for 50 years, Mr. Dwayne T. Mukai is currently a financial advisor at
Morgan Stanley. From 1993 to 1998, he was the business manager at the County of Hawaii
Office of the Prosecuting Attorney. He is presently the president of both the Japanese Chamber
of Commerce & Industry of Hawaii and the Sons & Daughters of AJA Veterans. He is also the
director of the Waiakea Elementary PTO, the Big Island Junior Golf Association, the Hilo High
School Alumni Association and the Crescent City Lions Club. A member of the Democratic
Party, he will serve a term to end December 31, 2006.
A resident of Hawaii for 53 years, Mr. Searle W. Grace is currently employed by Lentz Real
Estate. From 1477 to 2002, he was a fire fighter with the Honolulu Fire Department. Mr. Grace
was an assistant Boy Scout Leader, and he coaches AYSO and Little League Baseball. He also
volunteers as a medic at Kona Pop Wamer football games. Of no political party affiliation, he
will serve a term to end December 3 I, 2010.
Pursuant to Section 13-28, Hawaii County Charter, the salary commission shall consist of nine
members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Mr. Dwayne T. Mukai and Mr.
Searle W. Grace to the Hawaii County Salary Commission.
