SUBJECT: AMENDMENT OF THE MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT
WEST HAWAII LANDFILL
Enclosed for consideration and adoption is a Resolution to amend Resolution 49-93 which
authorized the multi-year contract with Waste Management of Hawaii, Ina (WMI) for the
construction, operation and closure of the West Hawaii Landfill.
To comply with the Order issued by [he Third Circuit Court, the contract is being amended to
provide for the County of Hawaii to assume waste intake services at the Wes[ Hawaii Landfill.
As time is of the essence to meet the deadlines set by said Order, the Department requests that
this Resolution be waived at [he Committee level and be considered by the Council at its meeting
on October I5, 1997. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call me.

RE: RESOLUTION 168
Resolution To Authorize Amendment Of The Multi-year Contract For The Construction,
Operation and Closure of the West Hawaii Landfill.
Pursuant to Section 1(e) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written approval is submitted in regards to the resolution mentioned above,
waiving said referral from the Committee on Public Works and Parks in order that appropriate
action can be taken by the Counci]
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed advisable that such waiver be granted.
