Mr. Pilago:
I oppose this project!
As you have already heard from the other testifiers, it will create
numerous negative impacts on Alii Drive and for our community. I have
lived in West Hawaii for the past 25 years and it's very disheartening
to see how Kona has lost its charm and beauty by allowing poor planning
to continue.
Do we really need another development with NO connector roads and NO
adequate parking for the Kailua Village and surrounding areas? I don't
believe this project would help the badly needed infrastructure that
previous administrations have failed to demand from the developers.
It's about time for the Hawaii county Planning Department, the Planning
Commission, Planning Committee and councilmembe rs to realize that smart
development and sustainable growth should be the criteria in approving
these type of projects. Unfortunately, there are NO concurrency laws
that can be enforced and the developer gets more than what they
bargained for. I sincerely hope that impact fees will exist in my
lifetime.
There is NO benefit for the public; NO assurance that a connector road
will ever be completed. It appears that ZF this Bill is approved, our
community will see another road going "nowhere". This approval for
rezoning will only cater to the chosen few. The mindset to "build it
and they will come", does not enhance our lifestyle; it destroys it.
