Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 271-06, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 271-06, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 239 by Director of Finance
William Takaba, via Communication No. 729, dated February 23, 2006, authorizes the receipt
and expenditure of State Funding appropriated by the State Legislature for Community Anti-
Drug efforts on the Island of Hawaii.
The State of Hawaii Legislature enacted Act 178, Session Laws of Hawaii 2005, which
appropriated, in part, $630,00 for the County of Hawaii to continue its anti-drug abuse efforts.
The funds will be utilized by providing grants to community organizations to undertake projects
that promote drug prevention and awazeness and education, and for a youth mentoring program
to help Hawai`i's youth avoid drugs and addiction.
Members of Your Committee requested that Director of Finance William Takaba look into the
County's Healing Our Island account, regarding the provision concerning the limit to the amount
that any single nonprofit entity shall receive.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 271-06
and recommends its adoption.
