I ask for the Council's favorable review <br /> and consideration in approving the proposal for submittal to the voters of our County. <br /> <br /> The purpose of this amendment is to adopt "Hawai'i Fire Department" as the formal name of our <br /> department. Currently, Article VII, Chapter 4 of the County Charter establishes the identity of <br /> our agency as "Fire Department." <br /> Historically, our identity was formalized in 1892 as the "Hilo Volunteer Fire Department." As <br /> we have evolved through the years, the Department has been referred to by various names. This <br /> proposal will ensure standardization and recognition of our department's name as it is generally <br /> reflected in our day to day communications and in our formal interaction with other agencies. <br /> <br /> We propose the following amendment to the voters: "Shall the Fire Department adopt <br /> "Hawai'i Fire Department" as its formal name?" <br /> <br /> I would appreciate your favorable action and support in this matter.
