Dear Chairman Yagong & Committee Members:
'fhe Hilo Downtown Improvement Association (DIA) appreciatcR this
' opportunity to provide comments on the Alenaio Flood Control
System and the one-way traffic pattern on Kukuau Street.
With regard to the Alenaio project, the DIA is pleased that
construction work has been completed. We have the following
concerns:
• Business and property owners urge the timely revision of the
federal flood maps, which are directly tied to insurance premium
rates.
• There is a need to monitor the spill-over flooding, which may
impact businesses a1 the bottom of Ponahawai SU'cet, closures of
Kamehameha Avenue and the recreational fields.
• 'The embankment and adjacent lot are in need of landscaping and
routine maintenance.
Regarding the Kukuau Street traffic pattern, the DIA has
reconsidered its position on the matter and is agreeable to
the recommendations made by the Department of Puhlic Works.
Again, thank you for soliciting the input of the Downtown Hilo
merchants and property owners.
Sincerely,
~~1Ar<<
