RE: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
KIP700LE STREF'T - EXTEND ONE-WAY TRAFFIC PATTERN TO KUKUAU
STREET
Honorable Chairman and Members:
Staff has reviewed the draft bill for an ordinance to amend
Chapter 24, Traffic Schedule of the Hawaii County Code,
relating to one-way streets.
We agree that Kukuau Street should revert back to its original
one-way traffic pattern, from Kilauea Avenue to Kinoole Street.
We offer the following comments to the proposed one-way traffic
pattern on Kinoole Street, from Ponahawai Street to Kukuau
Street:
Complaints received from motorists indicate
difficulties executing left turns to ingress and
egress Kukuau Street;
Motorists are not completely stopping at stop signs,
causing a potential traffic hazard;
Staff feels that the present traffic pattern will
limit our officers response to and from Downtown Hilo.
Although this proposal may be beneficial to some, overall,
there are still safety concerns affecting others tklat tied to 5~l•O/
