Recognize the Military Order of the Purple Heart representation on the Veterans Advisory Committee as being island wide and no longer from Hilo Chapter #731; and 2. Change one of four at-large member positions, from among 16 total Veterans Advisory Committee member positions, to be designated for Korean War Veterans. Communications No.740, dated March 2, 2006, transmitted by Patricia G. Engelhard, Parks and Recreation Director, proposes amending section 15-62(b) that establishes the membership of the Veterans Advisory Committee. The Military Order of the Purple Heart has recently changed its representation basis to the entire island; and, with the recent appointment of a Korean War veteran to the Veterans Advisory Committee, it is proposed that one member position on the Veterans Advisory Committee is designated as a representative of Korean War Veterans. With implementation of the changes in Bill 241, three (3) of the sixteen (16) member positions on the Veterans Advisory Committee will be at-large. Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill 241, and recommends that it pass first reading.
