Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 769, reports as follows:
Communication No. 769, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, dated
March 20, 2006, authorizes the acceptance of donations from the Matson Navigation Company.
The Matson Navigation Company has graciously donated three lifeguard towers to the
Department of Parks and Recreation Aquatics Division. Two of the lifeguard towers are for
Hapuna Beach and one is for Kahalu`u Beach. The value of these donations is estimated at
$19,140.54.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
Also, pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(c), Hawaii County Code, any donation or
gift which does not fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance shall
be submitted to the Council by letter for its approval.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to the Matson Navigation Company, Mr. Russell Chin, Big
Island Manager, Pier 1, Hilo, Hawaii 96720, acknowledging these generous donations.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the acceptance the shipping charges for the three
lifeguard towers from Matson Navigation Company.
