Per your request regarding transporting of dead bodies, I submit the following:
According to the Police Department, about the early 1970s, the ambulance (equipped with police
radios), was picking up the dead bodies. After that, the fire department took over that task. About
the mid 1970s, it was decided that the fire department would not be able to continue this
responsibility because if it was at a site picking up a dead body and then got a call for a rescue, its
first priority would be to a live person. And, understandably, alive person would not be
comfortable sharing accommodations with a dead one. It was then decided that this job would be
contracted out.
Following are amounts spent for body removals by districts:
