Aloha,
Once again the County Council is requested to make a decision regarding the banning-of pazking
along Ali'i Drive, more specifically north of Kahalu'u Beach Park. As I stated during the hearings in
1996. 1 am strongly opposed to such restrictions.
I live just off of Ali i Drive and even though I often times walk across the street to go to the
beach, I also drive to Kahalu u to swim and snorkel. I prefer entering the ocean at the north end of the
bay, next to St_ Peter's Church. So obviously, I park right there. I have never felt unsafe pazking my car
at that location. I do, however, get nervous when walking my dog along Ali' i Drive because of the
speeding and reckless cazs passing each other.
Instead of creating new laws to enforce on people, why don't the police enforce the laws already
made.....there are a tremendous amount of speeding cars driving down Ali'i Drive. When 1 am driving,
usually at or below the speed limit, [here is always someone tailgating me trying to get me to speed up. I
have called the police several times asking for more patrols... what we get is motorcycle patrols ticketing
parked cars!
In the past I have made suggestions to the council to add more stop signs along Ali' i Drive. Stop
signs would will surely slaw down traffic. I was told by the last council the signs would be too costly.
Well, wouldn't the proposed no parking signs be just as costly'?
The yellow pedestrian crossing signs with I S mph posted near Banyans and Magic Sands are
only warning/suggestion signs. Why not change these to enforceable speed limits?
1 am sure the residents who live along Ali'i Drive wouldn't mind having the traffic slow down!
I am opposed to any further restrictions to parking along Ali' i Drive. People who do not live in the arcs
need to be able to park there cars on a public street and go to the beach!
