The Point of my message:
I AM OPPOSED TO ANY DECISION THAT WOULD GIVE THE COUNTY PLANNING DIRECTOR FINAL SAY OVER
SUBDIVISION APPROVAL.

I was informed that on Tuesday, April 18th at 1:00 pm, the Hawaii County Council's
Planning Committee will convene in Hilo to decide whether or not the County planning
director should have the final say in whether a subdivision will be approved. I am aware
the planning director is APPOINTED, not elected. Giving this NONELECTED person final say
would eliminate public dispute of any decision the director makes, and would appear to
open up our island to potential ABUSE by developers. I also understand this was the
PLANNING DIRECTOR's PROPOSAL.
That is outrageous.
The County and its resident communities are in the expensive, time-intensive, hopeful
process of creating Community Development Plans to guide land use issues and development
on this island for the next 10 years.
This project director decision, at the very least, should not be made now.
This island is a very sacred and special place, for all who live here, caretake its land
and its culture. We have seen already too much unrestricted land use, taken wildly and
without the guidance of Kupuna and Kahuna of the islands. IT IS NOT A PLACE TO BE TRAMPLED
ON AND OVER-DEVELOPED BY THOSE WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS TO BE HAWAIIAN!
THIS IS MY ISLAND!
THIS IS MY HOME!
THIS IS THE HEART OF THE HAWAIIAN PEOPLE.
THIS IS THE HEART OF THE WORLD!
