The Chamber is in favor of this action because the project, congruen4 with the
Chamber's vision statement, will add value to our community's guelity of life by its
support for the initial and continued development of the University of Hawai' i
campus in 96Uarst Hawaa i.
'his will provide residents of our community with expanded amass to eduction and training
opportunities. Major industries of hospitality, food services, nursing, human serviceslsubstan~
abuse courrseling, and teacher education serve to highlight the continued n~ct for education
and twining to support our Community's development end growth.
'I°he Chamber, tl9rough its focus on educational concerns, has been cc9nslstently supportiv®
of a permanent presence of the University of Hawa'I'i in this grcawinq park of the Island.
Hiluhilu's plans to construct the Initial infrastructure to support 4he further development of the
UH Center in 9~/est H~aoai'i will significantly reduce 4he amount of basic infrastructure needed by
the University for its own land. ~4Ve understand this will save the State millions of dollars and
greatly shorten the amount of time the Univ®rsity will need to construct the ~mpus on its own
500 acres. In addition to saappo~ong the lJniversity's devel®pment, Ftiluhilu's plans to provide
another mauka-r~akai roadway o®nnec#ng Quern Ka'ahurnanu and Mamatahoa 4~ighways
indicates their awareness of the community's need for increased infrastructure.
