Re: Donation to the Police Department
Enclosed is a resolution accepting a donation of a search canine from Canines for Kids,
Inc., 4581 B Tangle Ridge Trail, Burlington, North Carolina 27217 to the Hawai'i County
Police Department's Juvenile Aid Section. The trained canine, named "Katie", will be
used to locate missing children primarily in the West Hawai'i area.
If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Police Department.

A. REQUEST:
To request Council approval to accept a canine from Canines for Kids, Inc. for the Police Departments
Juvenile Aid Section. The canine and the training is valued at $8,000.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
Canines for Kids, Inc., 4581 B Tangle Ridge Trail, Burlington, NC 27217 is donating a search dog "Katie" to
our Juvenile Aid Section. This canine will be used to locate missing children primarily in the West Hawaii
area.

Dear Chief Mahuna,
Canines for Kids, Inc., a nonprofit organization located in Burlington, NC, would like to
domes a search dog to your police department. While our primmy mission is providing
trained dogs to search for missing children and Alzbeimer's patients, our dogs are also .
quite often used by their departnoents to trail criminal suspects.
Our target date for delivery of your dog is now June 01, 2006. We have completed alt
mgwm news for Hawaii's Department of Agriculture regarding imporling your dog. We
will be arriving on June 04, 2006 to complete the handler training.
The value of the dog with training and equipmerlt is $8000.00
