Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 217, reports as follows:
Bill No. 217, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication No. 675,
dated Januazy 27, 2006, amends Ordinance No. OS-87, as amended, the Capital Budget, ending
June 30, 2006, by adding the following project:
PARKS & RECREATION:
Na`alehu Park Acquisition 110-599-5598.63 $1,200,000
Funds for this appropriation increase shall be provided from:
General Obligation Bonds, Capital Projects Fund- $1,200,000
Fund Balance and/or other Sources
Funds will be used for the Na`alehu Park Acquisition project. Na`alehu Park is the primazy
recreational site in the town of Na`alehu containing ballfields, tennis and basketball courts, a
comfort station, a community center and several smaller structures. This purchase is necessazy
to ensure the park site is held in public ownership for continued public use due to the pending
dissolution of the C. Brewer and Company, from which the County has leased this site for
numerous years.
There was no discussion on this measure.
Pursuant to Section 10-6(d), Hawai`i County Charter, the Council may amend the Capital Budget
for that year with atwo-thirds vote.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 217 and
recommends it pass first reading.
