My reason for this support is simple: a committee of citizens of West Hawaii volunteered to review the needs and issues relating to higher education opportunities, the traffic patterns and projected community growth. As a result of their efforts, the Palamanui/Hilu Hilu was recommended. Over the years, I have served in a volunteer capacity on many local and state government boards, commissions, and committees. I have personal knowledge of the heart and effort that our citizens commit to the betterment of life in our community. I ask you to honor the diligent and committed work of these community volunteers. We called on our citizens to gather, to help plan a new campus, to use their intellect and kuleana for the betterment of their community. To then ignore that work and capriciously advocate for another location, as was done by the Department of Hawaiian Homelands, is wrong, and should be condemned. For the great good of the Island of Hawaii, I truly hope that day does not come..... Respectfully, Kawika Marquez Executive Director
