SUBJECT: Bi11236, Draft 2, FY 2006-2007 Capital Budget
I ask that you consider amending Bi11236, Draft 2 by increasing the FY 2006-2007 Public
Improvement and Financing Budget by $1,000,000. The purpose of this amendment is to
provide additional funding for the selected bidder for construction of the Pahoa Fire Station
project.
The following amendment to Public Improvement projects and financing will be added:

Dear Councilmember Isbell,
RE: CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
PAHOA FIRE STATION REPLACEMENT
I would like to first thank you for your support and generosity with our many
budget needs and programs and second ask for your consideration of the following
funding request.
As you are aware, we have solicited bids for the construction of the replacement
Pahoa Fire Station. Our anticipated cost and allocated budget was for $4.3 million;
however the low bid came in at $4.63 million.
In addition to a shortfall of $330,000, we would like to include $170,000 for the
construction and installation of a fuel dispensing station to be shared by both the Fire
and Police Departments and $500,000 as a contingency for possible change orders.
Therefore, our total requests for additional funds amounts to $1 million. Although this
amount reflects a substantial increase over projected costs it will be necessary to
facilitate the construction of the project.
