We would like to take this opportunity to express our support as the
employees of B & L Bike and Sports in KaIlua-Kona for the passage of •
Council Resolution #201-97.
As a business established in the sporting industry on the Big Island
since 1973, we are all extremely concious of the importance of the needs
of the Big Island athletic community. The growth of fin swimming as a
recognized sport has had great impact on the growth of the number of
swimmers willing to compete in events and increased the confidence level
of many novice swimmers. It is also recognized as a great training
technique in endurance and speed training.
With the economic base of the Big Island greatly impacted by
tourism and with the current trr.nds in eco-tourism and sports tourism, it
is even more critical that we do all we can to support the promotion of
the sports of today and the future. What better place to lead the way in a •
water sport than Hawaii where year round training is available. The
growth of the sport is evident and its current recognition as a potential
Olympic Sport leads to many exciting possibilities.
Please help the Big Island lead the way in this endeavor through your
passage of this resolution.
