Higa and
Members of the Hawaii County Council _
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, HI 96720

Re: Bill 268

Dear Chairman Higa and Members of the Hawaii County Council:

As a taxpayer of the County of Hawaii, I write you this letter to voice my concern and opposition to Bill
268, which pertains to Mr. Pillage's request to move the Council and various Committee meetings to Kona
during even-numbered months.
To move these meetings to Kona is costly and not economically efficient for the following reasons:

1. Travel time for council members and staff
2. Housing, meals, mileage, gas (which continues to rise) and per diem for council
members staff
3. Per diem for the six council members who reside in East Hawaii versus the three
council members residing in West Hawaii
It is my understanding that the Council Members in Waimea and West Hawaii have access to video
conferencing which was recently set up at each taxpayers' expense, which included the cost of two TV's
and necessary equipment to operate video conferencing. Perhaps, the Waimea and West Hawaii council
members should let the citizens know within their respective communities that they have access to video
conferencing should they wish to attend a Committee or Council Meeting.

Mr. 214" out County and State is in a very poor financial state. I strongly believe and urge any
c me ber that supports Bill 268 fast think of the many homeless, hungry, and abused children before
g of er own comfort and divert their energy, time, and resources to more worthwhile and
^nkm
necessary lens within our County.
Th or your d a ntion.

GWENDOLYN BO ES

cam ~
.
Ref.
