CO
' COU. - -
County Council of Hawai'i
County of Hawai'i
Hilo, HI 96720
via fax 969-3291
To the members of the County Council,
This letter is to ask for your support and quick passage of Resolution 201.97, supporting
the Hawai'i Fin Swimming Events Council and proposed Hawai'i International Fin
Swimming Invitational Grand Prix.
As Executive Director of the Kona Family YMCA. a Branch of the Island of Hawai'i
YMCA, SCUBA Instructor for the YMCA, and member of the Freedive Club of the
Island of 1lawaf'i YMCA. T recognize the importance of water sports, especially here in
Kona where our resources are so abundant. To be recognized worldwide as a destination
for water sports and fin swimming would bring opportunities for our Kona youth to learn
more of their environment, encourage them to participate in.a healthy sport and give them
aspirations to go beyond their scope of limitations. I. myself, began the sport of SCUBA
when I was twelve and it has led to a lifetime of discovery and professionalism in water
sports. I know first hand the importance of star ling water sports at an early age.
I feel the passage of this resolution would help to stimulate the local economy and
promote our most abundant and natural resources here in Kona.
Tb.k. ,i.0 for your attention to this most impor ta.nt matter.
S.0 IPilli —
1114
AgW.V''
Gl- a • .
