Subject: Resolution No. 201 97, Resolution Supporting the Hawaiian Fin
Swimming Events Council and the Proposed Hawaii International
Fin Swimming Invitational Grand Prix
Dear Mr. Chairman
I urge you and your fellow Council Members to support and approve Resolution No. 201 97.
This is an outstanding opportunity for the people of the Big Island to display to the world our
incredible ocean environment and recreational facilities that can support international
swimming events. The new Pahoa Pool and the planned Kailua Pool will be excellent sites for
training programs and scheduled events. Kailua Bay has already gained international
recognition as one of the finest ocean swimming events venues in the world. Perhaps more
important though is what a program like this can do for Big Islanders. fin Swimming is great
fun and great exercise.
I am Vice Chairman of the Board of Managers of the Kona Family YMCA and a member of the
Island of Hawaii YMCA Aquatics Committee. We fully support and are working towards an
organized Fin Swimming program for children and adults. Passage of Resolution No. 201-97
would be a great help to us in realizing our goal. Thank you for consideration.
