Subject: TESTIMONY FOR BILL 268
Attending council and committee meetings via teleconference is informative, but is not the same as
being able to attend the meetings in person and being able to speak to council members directly in-
between sessions. Testifying in person has more of an impact than testifying via teleconference or via
e-mail. Now that the West Side's population has grown so much, I feel that we deserve equal access to
the decision making process in the County of Hawaii.
I urge councilmembers to begin investigating what must be done to begin to install the teleconferencing
option for Hilo side residents and county officials needing to appear before the council who don't want
or have the time to travel to Kona. Please don't use this issue as an excuse to vote no as Kona residents
did without this option for a long time. Our W. side ouncilmembers fixed this and so can East side
councilmembers.
I urge those council members who may not agree with this bill to vote for it anyway to give the voters a
chance to decide the issue.
This will go a long way to help heal the widely perceived feeling that West Hawaii has been dealt with
unjustly.
Please vote in favor of Bill 268.
