Re: Bill 235 and 236
Dear Mr. Higa and Council members:
On May 17`", in a move unpublicized in East Hawaii, the Council voted to change Mayor
Kim's budget by taking $2 million out of the $3 million proposed for public access and
open space land purchases; and taking $3 million out of the $4 million proposed for a
rainy day fund. An amendment also deleted the $1.5 million West Hawaii composting
facility.
These changes are all poor public policy. The fact that many East Hawaii residents are
unaware of them may have led the Council to the erroneous conclusion that we don't
care about these issues. My own Councilman, Dr. Fred Holschuh, continues to tell his
constituents he supports public land purchases in our district when he voted to remove
funds for that purpose.
What the Tribune Herald refuses to do, the "coconut wireless" will remedy. Do not
expect your insult to our intelligence to remain under the radar.
Sincerely,
~.ry r
