Subject: Proposed ban of all drinking in public parks
Aloha Council Members,
We were very dismayed to read that a bill proposing a ban on all drinking in
our County Parks is scheduled for consideration at your Council meeting next
week in Keauhou. A bill with such vast impact on the general public requires
the opportunity for public input. Our County Parks are an integral part of
the community and belong to all of us.
A bill such as this would significantly and negatively impact the local
lifestyle of many island families. We rely on open access to the Parks for
our family gatherings, celebrations and special occasions. This bill would
criminalize a legal adult activity and effectively restrict public access to C? c_
the Parks. w
If there are problems in the Parks caused by drinking, let's address the
specific problems. A total ban is NOT the answer.
Sincerely,
Curtis Malia and Amy Evans
