Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 891, reports as follows:
Communication No. 891 from Mayor Harry Kim, dated May 1, 2006 nominates Mr.. Alvin Rho of
Council District 8 to serve on the County of Hawaii Planning Commission.
Mr. Rho is a 61-year resident of Hawaii and is currently a senior associate at America's Choice and from
1974 to 2004 Mr. Rho was a school administrator with the State Department of Education. He states he is
not affiliated with any political party and, if confirmed, he will serve a term to expire on December 31,
2010.
Pursuant to Section 13-4, Hawaii County Charter, the Planning Commission shall consist of members
appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
At the June 6, 2006 Planning Committee meeting, Chair Pilago noted although the deadline date for
approval of the appointment will pass prior to the next council meeting, this committee will move the
matter to council.
Council Member Holschuh asked Planning Director Yuen to confirm whether Mr. Rho is the same person
who was the District Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Yuen stated he is the same.
Your committee on planning is in accord with Mayor Kim's appointment of Mr. Alvin Rho of Council
District 8 to serve on the County of Hawaii Planning Commission and recommends his confirmation.
