Dear Chair Safarik and Committee Members,
With the possibility that there may be a gap time between the closure of the South Hilo Sanitary
Landfill and the initial operation of a waste reduction technology, I would like to update the
Council Members on the status of interim solid waste management options.
We would like to discuss what we have learned about the Environmental Assessment
requirements, timelines, logistical issues, USDA rules process, procurement issues and costs.
